Urban living is something that more and more people are having to become accustomed to in Ireland today, and with that comes a smaller living space and a smaller garden space. This brings its own problems for gardening, not least of which is a bit of privacy! There are also aesthetic considerations, in that a grey block wall isn't the most appealing scenery to look at every day.
Fortunately, the garden trellis is a great solution, inexpensive and time tested. There are various types of garden trellis available, with some of the most popular for the urban garden being the expanding kind, both for ease of transport and installation.
Your trellis can be attached to the wall by means of lengths of wood, usually about 3cm thick between the wall and the trellis. The wood doesn't need to go the full height of the wall, it can be attached to the top and have the trellis hang down from it. This may mean a bit of drilling.
Once you have a trellis in place, you can plant all sorts of vines and climbing plants along it, such as rambling roses and many more, bringing a welcome splash of colour to an otherwise boring and dull garden feature.
Enjoy your garden!
