Some parts of our gardens are often stuck in gloom. Whether behind a wall or under a tree or hedge, these obstinate corners and areas will often just refuse to let plants other than weeds grow. Rather than accept weedy or bare soil patches however, a common trick is to use planters to spruce them up!
This works because even if their height doesn't give them the level to reach sunshine, the planters can be moved into the sun every day or two in order to give the plants a quick burst of sunshine. Using smaller plants and planters is ideal since trying to move around heavier pots can be laborious.
This also has the benefit that you can fill the planters with the best available soil and compost, and give it more attention than might be doable for a larger patch of clay or scraggly soil. Plants like azaleas and ferns look amazing, and if you'd like a bit of colour, bluebells and arums will do the trick nicely.
Don't forget to water the plants, which will usually need about three hours of sunshine a day. Planters are a great way to introduce a bit of variety and colour to your garden as well.
Enjoy your garden!
