Nothing will spoil your flower beds and herbs faster than an infestation of vine weevil grubs, but fortunately we have ways to control them. They're usually to be found hanging out around potted plants and greenhouses, preferring a bit of shelter from the elements.
They're usually pretty small, black or dark brown with a lumpy carapace and a long, pointed head. It will try to play dead if you disturb it, but the real problem is the grub or larva which looks like a small white worm in a C shape.
A vine weevil beetle feast can be seen by the round bites it takes out of plants from springtime to the middle of summer, but the grubs are the ones that destroy plants, since they eat the roots, leading to wilted yellow foliage and eventually death.
They're nocturnal so you can go out with a torch after the sun sets, knocking them off onto a piece of paper or something else of that sort to catch them. A carboard tube with elastic band around the plant can be used to trap them as well.
Nematodes can also be used to stop an infestation of vine weevils.
